Punch and Poetry Party

Today we had our Punch and Poetry Party. All students read a poem by Shel Silverstein and a poem that they created. These poems were either a Haiku, Diamonte, or a Cinquain. They really enjoyed learning about poetry and reading allowed to their classmates. After we finished all the poems, students were able to enjoy Oreos and Punch thanks to 37 People! (http://www.donorschoose.org/people37)

Videos of Student's reading their poetry coming soon.

Behavior Reward

On Friday we took a walking field trip to Quarter's Arcade in Spooner. Throughout the year our class has been earning marbles based on behavior. Our goal was to fill the marble jar ten times and we met that goal. Sam at Quarter's Arcade gave out quarters and allowed all students to play games like,  racing, carnival games, basketball, kiddy rides, and air hockey. It was great to see the students interact with each other and enjoy being friends with each other. At lunch we sat down and enjoyed our sack lunch. It was a great few hours of fun. Thank you to Sam for allowing us this opportunity!

Earth Day and Volunteers

At the Rails Rally on Friday we celebrated our volunteers with a little poem. We are so thankful for Amy, Lisa, Shannon, Candace, Kelly, Danielle, and Kathy Hill who have helped in our classroom and on field trips. You all helped make this such a successful year! Thank you!

Earth Day poster winners were given their prizes thanks to 37 People again. Mr. Dan was also paint blasted by those who have turned in their Color Run packets. Reminder that they are due on Friday.

$2500 for Our Classroom

A few weeks ago Mrs. Piskie and I learned that we had earned a $2,500 grant for each of our classrooms. My classroom project was for headphones and additional keyboards. On Friday, Farmer's Insurance surprised me and presented a huge check and flowers. The students were very excited about holding our classroom check. On Friday we had actually received five keyboards, 20 headphones, glue sticks, Lysol wipes, and a brand new pencil sharpener thanks to this grant. We will be spending more of this grant in the weeks to come.

Zoo Mobile

Last Tuesday the Lake Superior Zoo Mobile traveled to our school. K-1 learned about animal adaptations, while we learned about raptors. It was a great presentation. We got to see a red-tailed hawk, a screech owl, and a kestrel. We had a wonderful time learning about these animals from the temperate forest. Mrs. Rubesch and Mrs. Piskie nicely set this up and it was funded by our PTO!

Bug Find With Kindergarten

We went outside last Wednesday and looked for bugs with our Kindergarten buddies. They are busy researching bugs, but needed our iPads to capture pictures.

Clay Pottery

For the last two weeks in art we have been making clay pots and other projects. Students designed them, then painted them. The clay, paint, and paintbrushes for this project were purchased by a Lily Sarah Grace foundation on Donors Choose. With the money donated, 3rd grade has also had the opportunity to plant flowers downtown. Our class planted right next to Hair Envy. We'll let you know the other areas as they are planted. Ours should sprout in a few weeks!
