Dental Health Presentation

Today we had a dental health presentation from River Street Dental. We learned about what hurts our teeth, all about 2 (minutes, twice a day, sets of teeth, and dentist visits), and even got toothbrushes. Ask your child all about it!

This Week's Newsletter (Better Late Than Never)

I apologize. I completely forgot to get this out to you on Monday! Here you go :)

World Read Aloud Day

Today the mayor came to read to third grade for World Read Aloud Day. Mr. Cuskey read Arthur Meets the President. We thought it was pretty awesome!

New Morning Schedule

We are regrouping in WTW and WIN and we are also going to go to a new schedule that will help us have more focused ELA time! I'll talk about it at conferences, but here is a preview:

Movie Day Reward

Our students have made wonderful gains on their Star Reading, Star Math, and F&P reading assessments and we are so very proud of all the hard work they are doing. Friday was supposed to hold a sledding party, but we adjusted because of the rain and had a movie & popcorn party. Each third grade classroom showed a different movie and students could choose which "theater" to go to. It was a great afternoon. Hotel Transylvania 2, Finding Nemo, Inside Out, Big Hero 6, and Mr. Peabody were showing! We are proud of our students and how hard they work every day!

Oil Spill

Today we worked on cleaning up an oil spill on a river. (Water in a container with gravel) Students could buy $20 million in materials (4 clean up items) and had 10 weeks (10 minutes) to clean it up. Afterwards I tested the gravel on the shoreline using a point scale and a brown paper bag. Tomorrow they will discover who cleaned the oil spill up the best and we'll discuss why that happened.

100 Reasons

We also created 5 hearts for our "100 Reasons We Love Our School" display. We really do love our staff, students, and everything we get to do at SES!

Kindness Party

We made a wonderful Kindness box and poster for Mr. Dan. The box was filled with goodies, cards, and pencils to pass on the kindness. We also made a green screen video (click here - Be sure to turn up your volume. We talked quietly.) to show Mr. Dan. Students chose Mr. Dan because he is not someone who always gets thanked. Afterward students say they felt happy, good, and joyful!

Our Kindness Party!
We read a story about love and kindness, ate food, read through our valentines, and watched a movie on telling others that we love them and think their special.

Heart Splash

As part of our ELA rotations we had the chance to do some art and create shaded heart splashes! Students did a fabulous job and they look so beautiful on our back wall. I'll leave them up past conferences so you can see them.

Our Dreams

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day we wrote about our dreams. Check them out!
