Busy

I sit here and wonder where last week went. I think back to all the wonderful moments and all the busy things I did. We are people of busy schedules. Between school, sports, church, other work, house work, kids, cleaning, and the many other projects we have going on, we stay very busy. Many people would say that this busy stuff we fill our life with is not good for our kids, or for ourselves, but I beg to disagree. Throughout my life I have stayed busy. I have played many sports and done well academically, I have worked 40 hours and raised two wonderful children. I got married during college and also made the dean's list. I think busy is all what we make it. I think busy can be a bad thing if it is not handled correctly. Priorities are what should run our life. Find the things that keep you busy and put them in order, and then stick to that order. When you do this, busy is not a thing to hate, but rather the joy of life. Enjoy this week and keep "busy"!

Breaks

Breaks are a wonderful thing. They give us a chance to sit back and look over our life and see what areas we have been skipping out on. Today my motivational thought to you is that on each break you get with your child, whether it be ten minutes each night or a three day weekened, that you would take a peek at what they are up to in their education and in their life. It is not that you have not been doing this each day, but on the breaks really take time to really get to know what they are up to. It is in these breaks that you will get to know your child and see how you can help him or her and how they can help you. I know this is what I did yesterday with my children and what I will continue to do in each break I get with them.

Have a wonderful week! Mrs. Smith

Sorry...where does the time go?

I am sitting here on Wednesday night and wondering where does the time go? I feel bad that I didn't write my Monday blog post, but am happy to say that my classroom has been wrapped up in lots of learning. We finished our inventions last week and presented them to a classroom full of families. I was thrilled at the wonderful jobs that my students did. Now it is the day after Valentine's Day, a day that was filled with learning through the valentine theme. We decorated boxes, talked about love, did heart math, played valentine games and worked with valentine words. Yesterday had us zoom right into today. So, I am here to say sorry that I did not post on Monday, but say thank you to a wonderful three days of learning that make me realize how wonderful each moment is.

February, A Great Learning Month!

This month is a very exciting month. It contains many learning moments, that I am going to truly enjoy. We are learning about trustworthiness as our core value and what it means to be a good friend. This value goes right along with Valentine's day and love. In my classroom we are trying to say at least one nice thing to a person every single day. Not a bad goal to have, right? February is also Dental Health and Heart Health month. We will be learning about brushing our teeth correctly and will have a few visitors to talk about that. We have been averaging around 30 brushes a day as a class. (We keep count on our white board!) February is also Black History Month and we have President's Day off from school. It is amazing the lessons we can learn from those who have been here before us. Lastly, we will conclude our creative, inventive and notable people with an Invention Convention. What and exciting month it is! I am excited as usual to learn many new things this month rigth along with my wonderful students! Happy February!

We each have our "star" characteristics.

It is another Monday morning and I have decided that for the rest of this year I will use this blog to share something motivational. Today I am reminded that each student has his or her "star" characteristics. They have certain characteristics that make them the star in their life. Whether that is reading really fast, reading really well, multiplication facts, understanding math words, making a joke in a hard moment, being the fastest runner, and the list could go on. I have just begun to see all of the "star" characteristics in each of my sixteen students and am even more excited to see all of the characteristics. Remember to think about your "star" characteristics and use these to uplift yourself when it seems like you are failing. Have a happy Monday! Mrs. Smith

A new world!

A new world!

We are in a new world. This is my first time blogging and I have to say that I am excited for this brand new world we are entering. As teachers we strive to teach our students something new each day. That is what this "new" blogging is about. We are learning about the new technology available to us. Ten years ago I would have never thought that I could type my thoughts online and send them out to sixteen families all in the same moment.

This is an exciting moment in which I am glad you get to join in with me on. I will attempt to update my blog weekly and learn about blogging right alongside you. I hope for this to be easier than our website. I will continue to post pictures to our website until it is removed from our homepage. Our district is moving towards blogging and away from websites. This will be a gradual change and may not go in affect until next year. Our 3rd grade homepage will stay the same and it will continue to be updated monthly.

Please give me a call if you have any questions. Thanks for joining me in this new world! Mrs. Smith
